NOW taking deposits for our Spring Harvest!
Hey there, friends! We are writing to announce our summer harvest this year!
We are NOW TAKING DEPOSITS on a first come, first served basis for bulk purchases of beef that will be available to pickup (approximately) Friday May 5th. There are limited amounts available, so act quickly!
We really enjoyed the process with a new butcher last fall, and we will be working with them again this year.
The cost for our 100% grass-fed beef by the half or quarter is $5.25 per pound on the hanging, or dress, weight. The customer is also responsible for the butcher fees which are: $15 per quarter + $0.70 per pound (also on the hanging weight). Each cow will dress out differently, but a rough approximation would be 90-125 pounds of hanging weight per quarter.
- Deposit to Murdock Farms for a quarter = $100
- Deposit to Murdock Farms for a half = $200
- Deposit to Murdock Farms for a whole = $400
If you would like to purchase a quarter/half/whole please send us a deposit for $100 (for a quarter) or $200 (for a half), etc BY FRIDAY, March 31, 2017. Please make sure your check has your phone number and/or email address written on it. We’ll let you know when we receive it and confirm your bulk purchase. This is first come, first served, so don’t wait!!!
Oh, and if you haven’t had a chance to look around, there is a bunch of info on the web! Including grass-fed beef cooking tips! So send your friends and neighbors wanting more info to www.murdockfarmsnc.com.
Thank you so much for your business; we hope to see you soon!
best,
Doug, Melissa & Graham
P.S. For those of you new to our email list, here is a list of FAQs about bulk purchasing.
How does it work?
We’re glad you asked! We send out an email (LIKE THIS ONE – THIS IS THE EMAIL) to our entire customer list when we have a few cows ready for harvest. You respond with your intent to purchase a quarter or half, followed (within 7 days) by a check for a deposit. Once we’ve confirmed your order, we’ll send you an email to let you know when the beef will be available for pickup from the butcher and the remaining balance owed to Murdock Farms. You pay for the remainder, drive to the butcher (where you pay for their services) and then you drive home with a load of delicious, wholesome Murdock Farms 100% grass-fed beef for your freezer!

How much meat do I get in a quarter? a half?
On average, a cow will produce between 350-500 pounds of hanging, or dress weight. Of that, approximately 70% will become packaged meat. So, for an average cow, a quarter would produce roughly 60-90 pounds of meat for your freezer. A half would produce roughly 100-175 pounds of meat for your freezer.
What am I gonna do with that much meat? Can Murdock Farms split a quarter for me?
Find friends, neighbors and extended family to split the bounty with you. Everyone gets a 100% grass-fed alternative to conventional grocery store beef – at an even better price than grocery store beef!! And if you have ever had the luxury of going “shopping” in the freezer of your basement or garage, you understand another reason to order in bulk – convenience!
Unfortunately not. We will sell to one individual per quarter. As a suggestion, if you are looking for folks to split a quarter with, try posting on our Facebook page to see if others are interested. We are, after all, a community farm – what a great opportunity to get to know your neighbors!
What do i get in my quarter/half?
If you purchase a half or whole, it will be cut and packaged according to your preferences.
Quarter shares will be cut using a standard cutting order and include a mix of hamburger, roasts, steaks, stew beef and cube steak, liver and soup bones.
How is the meat packaged?
The meat is vacuumed sealed in plastic.
Do I need a chest freezer?
Unless you are splitting the half or quarter with a large-enough number or friends and family, the answer is probably, “yes.” Lowes and Craigslist have small, affordable chest freezers that will hold a quarter.
Where do I pick up the meat?
Cruse Meat Processing, a NCDA inspected facility, near Concord, NC. Their address is: 4701 Rimer Rd, Concord, NC 28025 and phone: (704)786-8616. Click here to see it on a map.
How long does it take once I order?
Once we deliver the cows to the butcher, the meat will be ready for pickup in approximately two weeks. We will confirm, once we receive your deposit, what date the beef will be available to pick up.
I really like visiting in the front yard of the farm. Why is Murdock Farms selling this way now?
We really like that, too; we’re gonna miss seeing you so often! Please read here to answer this very good question.
